The 1999 campaign at Khor Rori, Oman - Università degli Studi di Pisa

The 1999 campaign was focused in the area of the Monumental Gate. Three different sectors have been chosen for the cleansing operations and the soundings. The first area is placed outside the city gate, in correspondence with the postern exit. A huge quantity of material (natural accumulation and dumps from previous excavations) was removed and a large portion of the city wall (7 m) was brought to light. Removing the collapsed stones, the lintel of the door was found, as well as the door socket and the holes to lodge the wooden poles to close the door. A kind of ramp, made of stones with different size, following the natural sloping of the soil leans to the postern exit. The second area is inside the Monumental gate, after the second door, where a small channel for water, sometimes covered by stone slabs, was found. Removing the dumps a pavement made of stones of medium size was unearthed in front of the two bastions. The third area is in front of the external door, flanking the monumental tower. A bench, made of stones, was found in this area.
