CALL FOR PAPERS
On 19-21/01/2012, the University of Salerno (Italy) will host the V Annual Meeting of "MOISA International Society for the Study of Greek and Roman Music and its Cultural Heritage".
The topic will be:
Gli strumenti musicali della Grecia antica: nuove ricerche su documenti e contesti
Musical Instruments in Ancient Greece: New research on Documents and Contexts
The evidence we have on the musical instruments of ancient Greece and on their usage in many different contexts of Greek social life is certainly outstanding. It includes literary and epigraphic texts, archeological findings and iconographic sources. In recent years, this material has been widely studied according to the many different approaches proper to each scientific discipline, and significant results have been achieved on the shape, structure, function and evolution of the various instruments, and on the interpretation of their role within the history of ancient Greek music and musical genres.
Scholars interested in different aspects on this topic may send a proposal to the Organising Committee concerning new discoveries. Papers should not exceed 20 minutes each; titles and abstracts (maximum 500 words) in Italian or English must be sent within June, the 15th 2011, to: moisameeting2012@unisa.it.
